HydroVox V1 by CIFIKA

Live Performance with AI Generative Visual for ‘Nothing Makes Itself’ Festival @ Arko Museum of Art, Seoul

“HydroVox,” conceived by artist CIFIKA, represents the first chapter of her project exploring themes of celestial travel and deep-sea immersion. Performed live at the Arko Museum of Art as part of the ‘Nothing Makes Itself’ festival, the piece featured CIFIKA within a clear, cylindrical water tank – the ‘HydroVox’ – designed as a portal for trans-territorial voyages. The structure, engineered by Alex Griff (Loksu) of OpLab, allowed her to embody a transparent, jellyfish-like being, fully embracing the environment.

Jaeyoung Shin (OpLab) contributed significantly to the performance’s visual dimension. Over 2000 deepfake deep-sea creatures were generated using StyleGAN2 with Adaptive Discriminator Augmentation (ADA). These AI-generated creatures were displayed on two cylindrical screens flanking the main tank. Furthermore, TouchDesigner was utilized to create a live visual system where the creatures’ movements reacted instantly to CIFIKA’s voice, transforming her vocals into the energy source for the digital life forms. This integration of AI generative art and real-time audio-reactivity created a unique symbiosis between the performer and the digital ecosystem surrounding her.
